HOBART, Wis. (WBAY) - UPDATE: Highway 54/West Mason Street was re-opened at 11:30 Monday night.

The fire chief say the home was being renovated.

Highway 54, also known as West Mason Street, is closed in both directions for the response to a house fire.

The Hobart fire chief tells Action 2 News the fire had advanced through the house so much that firefighters were immediately in defensive mode. The fire was under control within an hour.

Nobody was inside the house at the time, and no firefighters were hurt, the chief said.

Our crew at the scene says several fire departments are there, including Hobart, Lawrence and Ashwaubenon. Because it's a rural area, they're helping truck water to the scene.

Shortly before 11 p.m. the fire response was winding down, but the fire chief couldn't estimate when the road would reopen.
