Job fair held for Shopko distribution center employees

DE PERE, Wis. (WBAY) - Some workers impacted by Shopko's closure are getting help finding new jobs.

More than 100 employers participated in a job fair at the former Shopko distribution center in De Pere.

Spectrum America Supply Chain Solutions announced last month it's shutting down operations by May 20. It took over the distribution center from Shopko in 2015, and the retailer was its only client.

"We are doing a lot to try to find the right place and help our teammates find a place to land on their feet. A lot of our teammates haven't had to look for a job in 20, 30, 40 years, so obviously it's a scary thing," Jason Mencheski from the company's human resources department said.

The company worked with the Wisconsin Department of Workforce Development to put the job fair together.

Shopko expects liquidation sales at its remaining stores to be finished in mid-June.
