Intoxicated driver had kids in car during high speed chase

FOND DU LAC COUNTY, Wis. (WBAY) - An intoxicated man had four children in his car when he led deputies on a high-speed chase in Fond du Lac County, according to the Sheriff's Office.

It happened April 20 at 4:15 p.m. A Fond du Lac County deputy tried to stop a vehicle on Highway 151 near Highland Park Rd in the Township of Calumet. The vehicle was driving 98 mph in a 55 mph zone.

"The driver of the vehicle failed to yield to the deputy's audible and visual signals, while passing other civilian vehicles on the shoulder of the road," reads a statement from Sgt. Nick Kahnke.

The driver continued on Highway 151 and slowed to highway speeds. A tire deflation device was put on the highway, but it didn't stop the vehicle.

As speeds dipped to below 30 mph, deputies used a roadblock technique. The vehicle stopped.

A 39-year-old Chilton man was taken into custody. Four children under age 14 were in the vehicle.

The Sheriff's Office says the suspect faces charges of Knowingly Fleeing an Officer and OWI with minor passengers.

There were no injuries or property damage.

The chase lasted about eight miles.
