Last July, the sanctuary broke ground on the 12,800 square foot expansion for the 4K program.

The expanded Nature Center will be able to accommodate 80 students. That's double the previous limit.

The project also includes a gathering space for events.

"Provides a beautiful space for families, for weddings, for conferences, for programs," says Gail Garrity-Reed, Fund Development, Friends of the Wildlife Sanctuary. "There's a floor-to-ceiling fire place that will welcome people in the fall and winter months. A caterer's kitchen. A certified kitchen that will provide additional income to the Wildlife Sanctuary."

The non-profit Friends of the Wildlife Sanctuary raised funds for the $3 million expansion project.
