Two area businesses are looking for a few veterans in need.

As summer approaches and the temperatures rise, Bay Area Services and Bay Heating Service, both in Green Bay, are looking for a veteran in need of a new air conditioning unit.

"Someone that has air conditioning window units, they want to get rid of those or a portable air conditioning system, or a failing air conditioning system, inefficiency - we're trying to upgrade someone," says Dave Drews from Bay Heating Service.

Shannon Beyersdorf from Bay Area Services adds, "This year we are giving away an air conditioning unit to a deserving veteran in any of the surrounding counties that we service, Brown, Shawano, Outagamie, Calumet."

Both businesses have teamed up with their individual dealers and Brown County Veteran Services for the air conditioner giveaway. Now, all they need are nominees.

According to Beyersdorf, "Someone that has two years of service, honorably discharged, and any branch of the military."

"Tell us a little bit about yourself and a little bit about the veteran and we can make a decision from that point," says Drews about the nomination process.

It's $2500 to $3500 gesture that is the least both companies can do for those who gave so much.

Dave Drews says, "Just to give back. We don't have to, but we want to. We want to give back to someone that's helped us move our country forward."

Brown County Veterans Services is thrilled because it's believes the need is great.

"This is somewhat of a unique program that I've not had before in my 26 years, but I think it's a very nice program where they're reaching out to give something very nice to a needy veteran," says Jerry Polus Brown County Veterans Services Officer.

The nomination period ends on May 25th because both businesses want to pick their winner by Memorial Day and install the new units on Flag Day, June 14th.
