A golf course in Neenah is giving back to a local animal shelter this summer in a unique way.

It's called "Ruff in the Rough", where you can spend each Sunday golfing with your furry friend.

"They have a new program, where you can bring your dog with on Sunday's to golf with you. As a favor to the shelter, they have allowed us to come out with some of our shelter dogs that are looking for homes," said Ellen Pichler, shelter coordinator for Neenah Animal Shelter.

The owner of Westridge Golf Course said he wants to give back to the community that has given so much to them.

"The community has been really good to us, as a golf course and we want to give back. And dog lovers are golfers, they don't get the chance to come out and play and bring their pet. We thought it would be a cool idea," said owner, Rory Burton.

Any dog can come on the course. They will be able to walk the course with their owner every Sunday from 4 p.m. to close.

For every golfer that brings their dog, the course will donate $5 to the shelter. Organizers with the shelter said this will help in the long run.

"It means a lot for us, especially to help promote adoption. We are a very small shelter right here in Neenah on County Road G and a lot of people don't even know we are there. So, having other businesses reach out, let us come out to them really helps the animals," said Pichler.

Burton, along with his staff at Westridge hope they help raise money and find homes for the shelter's animals.

"The last time they were out here they were able to get two dogs rescued and found them placement right away. We are trying to make people aware that they need help and get people pets," said Burton.
