Fond du Lac's Gorske chows down 30,000th Big Mac
A Fond du Lac man who holds the Guinness world record for eating Big Macs celebrated another major milestone Friday.
Don Gorske, 64, ate his 30,000th Big Mac.
He's eaten at least one Big Mac almost every day since May 17, 1972.
"If I go for 40,000, that'll take me another 14 years or whatever like that. I don't think people celebrate 35,000 at all, so we're probably looking at 14 more years down the road, and I'll be 78 years old then! So we'll have to see how I'm doing then, you know?"
In fact, when Gorske ate his 20,000th Big Mac on July 19, 2004, he told us thirty thousand "isn't that far off." Gorske says he's driven not by the challenge of reaching new milestones but by his love of hamburgers.
When McDonald's debuted the Grand Mac and Big Mac Jr. sandwiches last year, Gorske handed out bottles of Big Mac sauce to the lucky first customers at a McDonald's restaurant in Wauwatosa. He said a math teacher calculated he'd eaten 161.6 gallons of McDonald's special sauce.
In case you're wondering, Gorske says his cholesterol and blood pressure are normal and he weighs five pounds less than he did when he ate his 25,000th Big Mac in 2011.
For those who ever played the McDonald's Monopoly game, you might be distressed to hear Gorske has kept about 6,000 boxes from Big Macs, many of them in pristine condition.
"I've never peeled a game piece off a Big Mac carton," he said. "I've got thousands of cartons with game pieces on there, and if I got a car, that's just too bad."
