A chapel in Fond du Lac County burned to the ground early Wednesday morning.

At 5:04 a.m., firefighters were called to the report of a fire at Camp Vista, N3398 Chapel Heights Rd, Township of Osceola.

A witness saw flames coming from the wooded area. A chapel on the property was engulfed in flames.

The main chapel was destroyed.

Departments from Campbellsport, Mt. Calvary, St. Cloud, Kewaskum, Lomira, Brownsville, Beechwood, Calumet and Cascade responded. Two Rapid Intervention Teams dedicated to search and rescue also responded.

Crews were on scene for about five hours.

No one was hurt. No animals were lost in the fire, according to the Sheriff's Office.

The Fond du Lac County Sheriff's Office is investigating the cause of the fire.

describes it as a "gathering place where individuals can become more aware of and develop their God given talents."

Camp Director, Andrew Fidziukiewicz says they do plan to rebuild the church, which is the focal point of the camp.

The youth retreat was founded in 1961 by Father Joseph Fischer and the church was built in 1972.

Fr. Fischer's vision and goal was to "provide a natural setting where people of all socio-economic, cultural and religious backgrounds could enjoy the outdoor environment and learn how to bring Christ's love to others."
