Favre donating video fee from hate group to charity
Green Bay Packers Hall of Famer Brett Favre is denouncing hate and bigotry after he was tricked by a white supremacist group into recording an anti-Semitic message.
Favre took to his Facebook page this weekend after the hate group posted the QB's Cameo video online.
Cameo is a service that allows fans to pay a fee to get a "shout out" from Favre and other celebrities.
Favre says he was contacted on Nov. 22 by what he believed to be a U.S. veterans organization asking him to record a Cameo shout-out. Favre says he didn't know it was an anti-Semitic group posing as a veterans organization.
"A few days later, I was distressed to learn that the request came from an anti-Semitic group that reposted my video with comments implying that I endorsed their mission. Nothing could be further from the truth. I am therefore donating my $500 Cameo fee to Charities supporting their fight against hate and bigotry," Favre wrote on Facebook.
"Like most Americans, I am sickened by what these groups stand for and concerned about their role in fueling today’s negative political climate. The Cameo request from this organization is a prime example of how these groups are misusing social media to promote their agenda. I thought I was creating a message to support the brave men and women of our military forces. Had I understood the source of the request, I never would have fulfilled it. All of us – myself included – need to be vigilant to protect this country from these dangers."
Action 2 News is not naming the hate group or revealing details of their anti-Semitic message. Nor will we link to the video.
charge $500 for a personalized greeting. As Favre said, he's donating his fee for the video to groups that fight hate and bigotry.
