FOND DU LAC COUNTY, Wis. (WBAY) - A worker was hurt during an explosion at a cheese plant Friday morning.

It happened at Knaus Cheese, which is located on County Highway C in Lamartine.

The Lamartine Fire Chief tells Action 2 News the worker, Travis Klotzbach, was airlifted to a hospital with burns and broken bones. Klotzbach is said to be in stable condition.

The Fond du Lac County Sheriff's Office said Friday afternoon that Klotzbach had been using a cutting torch on an empty 55 gallon barrel when the explosion happened.

Klotzbach suffered serious injuries to his legs, back, and face. He was airlifted to a hospital in Neenah.

The fire was contained to the auto shop, which sustained smoke and fire damage.

"The employees that were there did a good job of extinguishing some of the fire and keeping the fire small. When the first people arrived here they were trying to get people out of the shop to avoid further damage just to the people inside," said Chief Joe Birschbach, Lamartine Fire Department.

Crews were called to the scene at about 7:30 a.m.
