DOOR COUNTY, Wis. (WBAY) - Have mercy. The Door County Sheriff's Office is warning residents about a scam in which the criminals are posing as priests and pastors.
The Sheriff's Office says the scammer will pose as clergy and send an email to a parishioner asking for iTunes gift cards for a person with cancer.
A potential victim in Door County contacted their clergy and notified them about the scam. No money was lost.
The Sheriff's Office reminds people to be suspect of requests for pre-paid debit cards or gift cards. It's one of the biggest red flags of a scam.
