Dog found starved, abandoned in Fond du Lac home
The Fond du Lac Police Department is investigating the severe neglect of a dog found abandoned in a home after its owners moved out.
The Fond du Lac Humane Society posted pictures of the severely emaciated dog on Facebook Monday.
"Gauging from the amount of feces and urine that was inside the house as well as the condition of the dog it's been probably close to at least three weeks before someone has taken care of this dog," said Renee Webb, who manages the Fond du Lac Humane Society.
They say the dog has been receiving very small amounts of water and food since Sunday. "We are just starting the long and daunting task of reversing the effects of starvation, severe dehydration and emaciation."
The humane society added, "This boy can use all the hopes and prayers he can get right now."
The Facebook post included a warning to readers if they find a dog in a condition like this not to feed it, because too much food too quickly can be fatal.
Wedd added,"I absolutely hope that whoever did this, to this dog is held criminally responsible for what they did."
Unfortunately Webb says situations like this are more common than most people would think.
"They're so many resources for re-homing an animal and by leaving them behind you don't know how long it's going to take for someone to get in there and they could be in this condition or they could be dead by the time someone does."
