Cycle of crime: Suspects stealing coins from washing machines in Green Bay

GREEN BAY, WIs. (WBAY) - Talk about a cycle of crime. Green Bay Police are looking for suspects who are breaking or damaging washing machines to steal the quarters.

It's estimated the thieves have gotten away with $1,500.

The thefts are happening at apartment complexes on the city's west side.

There have been six reports from apartment buildings in the following locations:

1500 block of Western Ave.
1600 block of Western Ave.
1700 block of Western Ave.
300 block of Locust St.

Due to the nature of the damage to the machines, police believe more than one suspect is involved. They say it is possible the suspects have a key that helps them gain access to the machines.

Officers say it would take a "considerable amount of time" to disconnect the water, pull the machines out from the wall and get into the coin-op area.

Police are asking apartment residents to look out for suspicious people in the laundry area.
