FISH CREEK, Wis. (WBAY) - Builders and artists are using pieces from the torn down Eagle Tower to help pay for its replacement.

The popular observation tower in Door County's Peninsula State Park was closed in 2015 due to safety concerns. Inspectors say the wood was decaying and support beams were in poor condition. It was dismantled last summer.

Some reclaimed wood and metal from the tower are being used to create sculptures, cabinets, and other pieces.

They'll be auctioned off to fund the reconstruction of the new tower.

The auction will be held September 30 at White Cottage/Red Door, 8813 State Highway 42, in Fish Creek.

So far, almost $600,000 has been raised to build a new observation tower.
