ABC bringing back "American Idol" for 2017-2018 season

(WBAY) - The dream of becoming the next Jennifer Hudson, Kelly Clarkson, or Carrie Underwood has returned. ABC is bringing back "American Idol" for the 2017-2018 season.

The music competition, which aired on Fox for 15 seasons before going dark in 2016, has been resurrected by ABC. That means you'll be able to watch it on WBAY-TV 2!

“‘American Idol’ on ABC...that has a nice ring to it,” said Ben Sherwood, co-chairman, Disney Media Networks and president, Disney|ABC. “‘Idol’ is an entertainment icon, and now it will air where it belongs, in ABC’s lineup of addictive fan favorites alongside ‘Dancing with the Stars’ and ‘The Bachelor.’ America, get ready for the return of a bigger, bolder and better-than-ever ‘Idol’.”

A host and judges will be announced at a later date, according to ABC. It's not known if Ryan Seacrest will return.

"American Idol" winners and contestants have sold more than 60 million albums and produced more than 450 Billboard N. 1 hits.
