NEENAH, Wis. (WBAY) - Evergreen Retirement Community announced it acquired the 43-acre Kimberly-Clark headquarters in Neenah as Evergreen fulfills its goals of expanding its footprint in the Fox Valley.

“Evergreen has been exploring opportunities to expand into the Fox Valley for quite some time,” president/CEO Ken Arneson said through a statement. “With the support of the Evergreen Board of Directors, this acquisition is our opportunity to grow and serve a new community.”

Kimberly-Clark opened its corporate headquarters on N. Lake St. in 1956. It moved the headquarters in 1985 but kept offices there until 2021, when it moved executive, marketing and sales staff to a new commercial facility in Chicago.

The sale price was not announced. The property was put up for sale in 2021 for just under $10 million.

Evergreen says it’s considering independent-living apartments and assisted living accommodations in the existing 178,004 square foot office building. Development proposals also include building independent-living housing, a fitness and aquatic center, performance space, and a place for worship.

The retirement community notes that the property sits along Little Lake Butte des Morts, close to parks and to Highway 41 for access to amenities in the Fox Valley.

Evergreen, which is based in Oshkosh, says it’s working with the Village of Fox Crossing and a Wauwatosa-based architectural firm that specializes in senior living.

A property listing says the original architect was Bruce Graham, who also designed the Willis Tower (Sears Tower) and John Hancock Building in Chicago.
