OSHKOSH, Wis. (WBAY) - Oshkosh police say two children escaped harm after a weapons call at a home just after midnight.
Police were called at 12:07 a.m. about a fight involving several people, and a man was pointing a handgun at people at threatening to shoot them.
When officers got there, they found two children on a second-story balcony. The children were able to escape the fight inside the home, and officers got them down safely. Other people came out of the house and said the man with the gun and two children, 1 and 2 years old, were still inside.
Police and the Winnebago County Sheriff’s Office brought armored vehicles, and used drones and a robot to get information about the house. SWAT officers went in, and police say the 2-year-old came into an officer’s arms and was removed from the house.
The SWAT team continued searching, and found a 35-year-old man under blankets on an inflatable mattress. He was arrested on a probation warrant.
The one-year-old was also located and is safe.
Police closed a portion of S. Main Street during the situation. The street reopened after 9 a.m.
