MADISON, Wis. (WMTV) - A subcontractor working on the renovations at Camp Randall Stadium was seriously injured in a fire Wednesday morning, the University of Wisconsin revealed, adding new details to the initial Madison Fire Dept. reported.
According to the fire department, firefighters responded just after 8 a.m. to the Badgers home stadium after being alerted to a fire and an individual who had been injured. While the first fire crews made it there in two minutes, the fire had already been extinguished.
Paramedics reached the individual who was injured and treated that person at that location before moving the patient to the hospital. The name of the individual was not released.
“Our thoughts are with the individual who was injured this morning and we are grateful to the first responders both already on-site as well as from fire and police personnel, who assisted during the incident,” UW Director of Football Brand Communications Brian Lucas wrote in a statement.
The UW Police Dept. is investigating the cause of the fire. Additionally, the company in charge of the renovations at south endzone and the subcontractor are conducting their own investigations. They are also offering support to the injured subcontractor, co-workers, and family members, Lucas added.
