STURGEON BAY, Wis. (WBAY) - A Door County candle maker has made another donation of $150,000 to support the people of Ukraine.

Door County Candle Company announced Friday that they’ve donated a total of $275,000 from their Ukraine candle sale. Owner Christiana Gorchynsky Trapani is a Ukrainian American.

The money goes to Razom for Ukraine, a nonprofit to provide help to Ukrainians impacted by the Russian invasion. Christiana’s efforts have been featured on World News Tonight with David Muir and the Today Show. The publicity was enough to crash the company’s website, but they are back up and running.

“One candle at a time, we’ve been able to donate over a quarter of a million dollars to Ukraine, and that will only continue,” says Trapani.

Trapani told Action 2 News she was hoping to sell a few hundred when she started the campaign about a month ago. Her grandmother, or Baba, explained the significance of candle in the Ukrainian culture.

“We usually light candles for Christmas Eve, Christmas Day when we sit to dinner, so a lit candle is life an it’s meaningful,” says Luba Derkacz.

Orders are expected to take several weeks due to the overwhelming response. CLICK HERE to find out how to order a Ukraine candle.
