GREEN BAY, Wis. (WBAY) - Northeast Wisconsin Technical College held a ceremony Wednesday for a unique graduating class. They are the first graduates of NEW Scholars, a CollegeReady program for under-served kids in the Green Bay area who want to be the first generation in their family to graduate from college. They’ve been helped along a college track since sixth grade.

Chris Roth talked with CollegeReady program director Brent Roubal and one of the students who signed their college acceptance letters Wednesday, Raquel Quevedo Vasquez, who will attend the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. They talked about what it takes to succeed in the program and what it means to be the first in their family to attend college.

The NEW Scholars program is a collaboration among CollegeReady, the Green Bay Area Public School District, University of Wisconsin-Green Bay, and NWTC.
