A DENSE FOG ADVISORY has been posted for all of Northeast Wisconsin. This alert from the National Weather Service lasts through Sunday 10am. Drivers should not only be cautious due to reduced visibility, but also for slippery roads since temperatures are below freezing. Be especially careful on untreated roads, bridges and overpasses. Pedestrians should also be alert to icy spots on sidewalks and parking lots early Sunday morning.

The stubborn clouds and areas of fog are being created by “an inversion” in our atmosphere. Cool damp air is being trapped near the ground by a warmer layer of air above it. Since there are no major weathermakers to mix the air and break up the inversion, expect more cloudy days ahead. Some patchy sunshine MAY shine Sunday afternoon, especially NORTH of Green Bay. However, this is not certain, and we expect more clouds to fill back in Sunday night.

Otherwise, the forecast looks mild and quiet for early January. Sunday’s high temperatures will be mainly in the upper 20s, with mostly 30s during the upcoming work week. A few flakes may fly late Monday and perhaps again on Wednesday. However, we do not see any big storm systems heading our way for a while, which may be disappointing for those who want more accumulating snow.
