Therapist’s tips for a positive start to 2021

GREEN BAY, Wis. (WBAY) - We’ve said goodbye to 2020. Now, we hope for better things in 2021.

Prevea Health Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist Lisa Tutskey says it’s important to remember that nothing is perfect and some days will be better than others.

Tutskey says a return to normalcy won’t be immediate, so it’s important to have realistic expectations.

She says it may not be a good year to make those New Year’s Resolutions. They can be hard to keep while we deal with the COVID-19 pandemic. Set small goals and do them by months, not for the entire year.

Be kind. Others may be going through a tough time.

“If we can go out into the world and be as kind as possible, offer grace, understand that people are struggling and we may not know why, to me that’s the best way to start this year,” says Tutskey

Tutskey says some people are seeking out counseling for the first time. Others who left therapy are coming back. She says that’s related to the pandemic’s emotional toll.
