Calumet Co. Sheriff confirms active shooter report at Ariens a ‘false alarm'

After investigating with maintenance employees, authorities say they discovered there was a malfunction with the alarm system.

BRILLION, Wis. (WBAY) - The Calumet County Sheriff says there was no incident at Ariens in Brillion Monday afternoon after saying the report of an active shooter was a false alarm.

A heavy police presence was spotted in the area around 2:30 p.m. by citizens in the area.

Authorities say they were called to the area of 655 W. Ryan for an active shooter alarm.

When they arrived, officers say they found employees evacuating the building, and police immediately entered the building to search it for a possible shooter.

The Calumet County Sheriff’s Office says multiple departments, including the Calumet County SWAT team, did a thorough search of the building, and verified there was no active shooter.

After investigating with maintenance employees, authorities say they discovered there was a malfunction with the alarm system.

Traffic was being diverted in the area for a short time, however the area is back open to vehicle traffic.

Multiple agencies responded to the incident.
