Korean War Veterans Honored in Brown County

Local veterans received special recognition for their service in the Korean War. They received certificates of appreciation at a ceremony Saturday at the Brown County Fair.

The ceremony marks the 61st anniversary of the end of the Korean War.

Prisoners of war and Wisconsin soldiers who lost their lives in Korea were also honored.

For many of the veterans it was their first time receiving recognition since the war.

"It's kind of a touching thing at this time of the year because I had bad experiences at this time because of the Korean service and I'm just tickled pink that we're being honored. It's really very meaningful to me at my age," said Lee Frangquist, a Korean War veteran.

The veteran's services office says it's important now more than ever to honor these veterans.
