EAA AirVenture Draws Crowds from Near and Far

Oshkosh -

For aviation lovers there's no better place to be than Oshkosh for EAA AirVenture. Pilots from across the globe descended on the city for the opening day of EAA AirVenture.

"My favorite thing is the fact I can look around and see so many people who are so different, everybody is different, doing different things, and only one thing they have in common is aviation. We are all here because we love aviation," said Jack Shaw, Atlanta, GA.

"I think the air show is probably the biggest draw for everybody to see," said Eric Malzer, Dallas TX. "All the airplanes flying in the sky and whatnot, you can walk around and look at them, but to see them actually fly that's the best part for me. "

The daily air show usually starts about 3 p.m., attracting big crowds to the flight line.

It's a chance to see pilots perform amazing stunts and daring maneuvers.

Norman Pratlegg and Ien Pratlegg traveled to EAA AirVenture from England. They were impressed with the size of the grounds.

"It's like having four or five air shows in England, all in one. It's got everything. A bit of everything," said Pratlegg.

"I just can't take it all in. Can't take it all in. It just goes on forever," said Ien Pratlegg. "Wherever you've been, you think, 'We'll that's it. Oh lord, look at that right there.' So you know, off you go."

AirVenture attracts about a half a million people, and everyone here seems to have a favorite plane that they hope to see in action.

"Definitely the warbird. I love the B-17's love the Corsairs, the Mustangs, I can't wait to see everyone get up in the air," said Katey Day, Portland, OR.

People who attended opening day were also treated to a concert from "Danger Zone" singer Kenny Loggins. Thousands stayed after the air show to watch his performance.
