Wisconsin mom, son accused of veteran charity scam

Posted: Updated:

MADISON, Wis. (AP) - Wisconsin officials are filing a civil action against a mother and son accused of keeping proceeds from discount coupon book sales that were supposed to benefit military veterans.

Attorney General J.B. Van Hollen said Tuesday the complaint against Brian and Andrea Michaud (MEE'-shohd) of Double Up Inc. seeks restitution for consumers who purchased coupon books. It also seeks forfeitures.

The Journal Sentinel reports (http://bit.ly/Wfyxgp ) the company sold about 10,000 booklets offering discounts at Waukesha and Milwaukee County businesses in 2011. The company said proceeds would benefit disabled veterans and veteran outreach programs in Wisconsin.

The complaint claims the pair never donated proceeds to any local veteran group.

A message seeking comment was left at a number listed for Andrea Michaud in Tomahawk on Tuesday afternoon.
