318 Acts of Kindness Blanket Area in Honor of Appleton Man

Dozens of people spanned Northeast Wisconsin, even the country Saturday, handing out random acts of kindness.

Earlier this year we introduced you to the group Superheroes Fighting Cancer.

An Appleton family started the non-profit in honor of Chad Wogernese who died of cancer in September.

The organization, led by Chad's widow and two kids, aims to help parents fighting cancer with medical bills and special moments for their families.

Chad Wogernese battled cancer for 318 days.

He would have turned 31 years old Friday.

This weekend, in his memory, Colleen leads volunteers in 318 random acts of kindness.

"We started doing it just in honor of Chad, all of the birthdays, holidays, anniversaries," she said. "It just astonished me that all of those people who have followed our journey, who don't know, who heard it from someone else wanted to get together and do something to help the awareness."

In Green Bay, volunteers hosted a free car wash.

"It's really about building awareness for the organization," Kris Alfheim said, a volunteer.

In Appleton, volunteers left chalk and bubbles in parks for kids, handed out balloon animals at local farmers markets and surprised people with free coffee.

"Everybody can do something," Alfheim said. "Hold a door. Push in a grocery car. Mow someone's law. Just be nice. The world would be a better place."
