Columbia rock club to be sold to Wisconsin duo

COLUMBIA, Mo. (AP) - A Columbia rock club that's served as a musical beacon for artists and fans across the Midwest is changing hands as it approaches its 34th anniversary.

The Columbia Missourian (bit.ly/1ok6aEe ) reports that two club owners from Madison, Wisconsin plan to buy The Blue Note and sister club Mojo's from co-founder Richard King in a deal expected to close in October. The two sides did not disclose the purchase price.

New owners Matt Gerding and Scott Leslie opened the Majestic Theatre in the Wisconsin college town in 2005. Gerding is a Columbia native.

The 60-year-old King and partner Phil Costello opened the original Blue Note in 1980 before moving downtown a decade later. The club hosted such acts as R.E.M. and the Red Hot Chili Peppers before they reached national prominence.
