De Pere Girls Make Bracelets for Charity

Updated:

A group of De Pere girls is proving you're never to young others. Their "Bracelets for Benefits" mission has turned into quite the operation.

For two weeks now, Olivia Kust, her cousin Karsen, and neighborhood friends Emma, Cindy and Emily have worked almost non-stop to use their talents to raise money for charity.

"We thought we could make bracelets, then we just kind of started to do it," says 8-year old Olivia.

The girls combined their craft kits and supplies, watched some online videos for instruction and then took over Olivia's dad's garage.

"And he has this weird name for it which is the sweat shop," laughs Olivia.

"Olivia comes home from summer school and they're waiting outside the garage, waiting to get in, it's cute," says Elizabeth Kust, Olivia's mom.

"It's just grown, we work everyday together and if one person leaves we keep working," says 12-year old Emma Paradise.

"One day me and Olivia, we just couldn't stop, we had to have a sleep over and just keep working," says 12-year old Emily Garcia.

As with any fundraising, marketing is essential.

The girls created a brochure highlighting all their creations.

"Well we have box bracelets, survival bracelets, rainbow loom bracelets, there's charms and rings and glossy bands," says Olivia

The girls first big sale will be at a rummage sale in De Pere this Saturday.

They also plan to go door to door. Each person who makes a purchase will get to vote on which Wisconsin charity the money should go to, and the top two vote recipients will receive all the money the girls raise.

"Not everyone just needs to care about themselves, sometimes you need to care about others," says Emily. "It's good to help other people and it feels good," says Olivia.
