First Fridays on the Fox Attracts Thousands

Friday night's huge crowd at the first Fridays on the Fox of the summer in downtown Green Bay is an example of how some of the city's investments are paying off.

While dueling pianos were the main act on stage, the real reason the crowd comes is because of the city deck.

"Whenever I get people from out of town, I bring them down here to the waterfront," says Paula Demeuse of Suamico.

Since the construction of the city deck, it's a popular gathering place. Friday night, there was an estimated 2,000 people.

"It was a terrific investment. It's brought about hundreds of activities in the downtown," says Green Bay Mayor Jim Schmitt.

Schmitt says the city used $25 million in grants and private money to build the city deck and public parking space to turn the area into the centerpiece of the city.

It's where on any given week, thousands of people will now rather spend their evenings.

"Nothing like being out here, in the beautiful weather, enjoying the music," says Quince Porter of Green Bay.

Lorena Mongin of Green Bay adds "I can see myself bringing my daughter and possibly more children down here and just having a good time."

As for Fridays on the Fox, organizers say they expect attendance to go up from even last year because of the growing people who live and work downtown.

"Nearly $150 million dollars in development either under construction or on its way." explains Crystal Osman of Downtown Green Bay, Inc. "It is nothing like it was. It is completely vibrant, and exciting and just totally different place now."

They want you to imagine what downtown will look like five, ten years from now.
