Lawrence University Graduates Record Number of Students

A record number of students graduated from Lawrence University in Appleton, making their families, friends and teachers proud.

Three-hundred seventy students walked across the stage Sunday. It's the largest graduating class in Lawrence University's 165 year history.

Cayla Rosche is one of them.

"I'm really excited because it's been five years," she said.

The voice performance and choral music education major is looking forward to being a middle school choir teacher in Oak Creek this fall.

"Lawrence has opened a lot of doors in my mind intellectually as well as socially and emotionally," said Rosche. "I think I'm a different person now than when I came to Lawrence."

Thomas Lee also grew.

"I've taken some really extraordinary classes here, and my experience here has been really great, really rewarding," Lee said.

Lee, who studied music and piano performance, will wrap up an internship with Mile of Music in Appleton this summer, before preparing for grad school.

Professors say today is an emotional and proud day for them, as well.

"It's an extraordinary experience. When they come in, they're basically high school students and when they leave they're men and women, so you get to walk with them during those 4 years," said Steve Sieck, Director of Choral Music at Lawrence.

The Lawrence University graduating class is from 35 states and 20 countries.
