2 Your Health: Link Between Sleep Apnea and Diabetes, says study

Updated:

New research shows there is a strong link between sleep apnea and diabetes.

University of Toronto researchers looked at more than 8,000 people in Canada.

They found that the more severe a patient's apnea, the more likely they were to develop diabetes.

Sleep apnea can cause a lack of oxygen, shorter sleep time, and higher heart rate -- and researchers say those symptoms can also play a role in the development of diabetes.

Previous studies have shown that losing weight can help alleviate both sleep apnea and type two diabetes.

A new study shows a vaccine against a common infant illness has kept almost a quarter-million babies out of the emergency room.

Rotavirus causes severe dehydration and diarrhea in infants.

Before the first rotavirus vaccine was released in 2006, up to 60 infants a year died of the illness.

Researchers estimate vaccines like Rotateq and Rotarix saved a billion dollars in health care costs in the first four years of their release.
