Walleye Weekend Not Affected By Manure Leak

Updated:

The Wisconsin DNR says most of the dead fish killed after a manure spill last week have been removed from a Fond du Lac County creek.

Fisherman on Lake Winnebago out for the up coming Walleye Weekend will not be affected by the leak. The DNR says people who follow normal precautions for handling and cooking fish will be safe.

About 50,000 gallons of manure leaked into Pipe Creek after a hose leaked at Lake Breeze Dairy in the Town of Calumet. The DNR is investigating that spill but says the stream is returning to normal as their cleanup continues.

Water is being tested from the creek, local lake shores and from a couple private drinking wells near the spill.

The DNR says the results of those tests should be available within the next five days.
