Update:

The driver of the vehicle that was rear-ended by a semi and pushed airborne into the ditch is from the Quad City area. 45-year-old Dana Miller of Eldridge was not hurt. The Iowa State Patrol reports he was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash. The report says Miller merged into the left lane and then slowed down while approaching the crash scene. His car was struck by the semi, then pushed across both lanes into the car  parked on the shoulder and then into a post in the ditch.

The driver of the semi, 49-year-old Michael J. Smith of Arlington, Iowa was cited for failure to maintain control. He was also unhurt.

Dash cam video of an accident involving an Iowa State Trooper has been released by the Johnson County Sheriff's Office. A vehicle crashed into the trooper's patrol car on I-80 in last Friday, March 14.

Johnson County Sheriff, Lonny Pulkrabek, says Trooper Jesse Hernandez was responding to a multiple-vehicle crash and had his lights on, but a semi truck failed to slow down for the crash scene and rear-ended another vehicle.

According to information from NBC affiliate KWWL, the vehicle then slid across traffic lines and slammed into Hernandez' squad car.

"This is just a glaring example of how close we came to losing Trooper Hernandez, Deputy Hammes, along with Reserve Deputy Pearson," said Sheriff Pulkrabek.

Trooper Hernandez's injuries are unknown at this time.
