No Charges after Wis. Speeder Kills 85-Year-Old Woman

Posted: Updated:

WAUSAU, Wis. (AP) - Wausau police say a man who was speeding when he killed an 85-year-old woman last summer won't be charged because he apparently was having a seizure.

A Daily Herald Media report says the driver won't face criminal charges or a citation even though he was going about 83 mph in a 25-mph zone.

The 51-year-old was driving in June when his SUV plowed into the car of Frances Wilk, who was waiting at a red light.

Prosecutors investigated for eight months before declining to file charges. Police say privacy laws prevent them from identifying the man, who wasn't hurt.

Police say the man's neurologist believes the man had a seizure while driving.

Wausau Police Capt. Ben Bliven says the man's driving privileges won't be reinstated without a doctor's permission.
