Growing Marine Manufacturing Industry Seeks Boat Lovers - WBAY

Growing Marine Manufacturing Industry Seeks Boat Lovers

Updated:

It's day two of the WBAY Boat Show and Cupid's arrows are flying in Shopko Hall.

It's a day to celebrate love.

"Valentines day, took the day off to spend together," says Laura Cormier with her husband Don.

And a day to look for love.

"Oh yes it is a nice looking boat," says Steve Beulen smiling with admiration, "it is a nice looking boat."

At WBAY's 58th Annual Boat Show, the nautically enamored do both.  Hoping to find "the one".

"I'm looking for a lot of seating," says Laura Cormier.

"Live wells, big enough live wells, bait wells," says Beulen.

Dealerships say pontoons and power boats are most attractive to customers and thanks to a rebounding economy, they're selling more of them.

"Sales have been good they've been steadily growing since the recession," says Roger Hager, President of Ed's Boat Sales.

Exports have also increased which is why the Northcoast Marine Manufacturing Alliance wants to meet someone special too.

"Our organization represents the 7 boat/yacht builders in the region," says Ann Franz, coordinator for the Northcoast Marine Manufacturing Alliance.

They have over 300 jobs to fill.

"From welders to drafters to designers to supervisory positions," says Franz.

Since they want to hire people who will love the job, a Valentine's Day weekend boat show is the perfect place to recruit.

"I'm hoping people will find a lot of love in their hearts for the marine industry.  So buy a boat then come to work and build them too!" says Franz.

They will be holding a marine builder job fair at Northeast Wisconsin Technical College on Feb. 27 from 10am to 2pm.

The WBAY Boat Show runs all weekend long at the Brown County Arena and Shopko Hall.
