Blood Drive Honors Neenah Walmart Shooting Victim

Neenah -

Family members of the victim of a shooting at the Neenah Walmart last summer held a blood drive at Theda Clark hospital Friday in her honor.

Near the front entrance of Theda Clark Hospital in Neenah, community members gathered inside a bus to donate blood in honor of Sharon Goffard, who was shot by a co-worker while working at the Neenah Walmart in August.

"It was so hard to see her like that, and every day and sometimes every hour, the nurses and the doctors saying, "hey, your mom needs another unit of blood or she needs more know, and if she didn't have that, she wouldn't have survived," said Sharel Goffard, Sharon Goffard's daughter.

Sharon Goffard needed more than a hundred units of blood throughout her recovery.

And on Friday, relatives, friends and even strangers helped in the effort to give that same amount back to the community.

Sharel Goffard says her mother was touched by the outpouring of support.

"Every time someone walks in the door, it's just one of those "Oh, my gosh!" You know, she's so excited and it's awesome to be able to see that expression on her face again," she said.

Donors say giving back was the least they could do.

"Sharon's just come so far..and, it's just a little thing like this that I and people can do. It takes no time at all," Jean Goffard, Sharon Goffard's cousin, said.

While the Goffard family is grateful to have Sharon close by them on her birthday, the blood drive serves as a way for them to thank all of those who helped save her life.

"You just look back and thank god for having her here yet, and thank these surgeons... Every time we're here and we see one of them, give them a hug, thank them for their magic hands," Sarah Goffard, Sharon Goffard's daughter, said.
