Last-Minute Shoppers Make Today 2nd Busiest Day of Year for Stores

Updated:
Ashwaubenon -

It's the final weekend before Christmas. And according to the National Retail Federation, there is still about $51 billion dollars worth of items to be purchased these last four days.

Today is known as Super Saturday or the second busiest shopping day of the year, right behind Black Friday.

We mingled with last-minute shoppers who attempted to cross names off their lists. And hear from stores about how they're accommodating.

If you're still not done with your shopping yet, you're going to need Chris Nejedlo's attitude to get through it.

"I don't mind at all," said Nejedlo. "It's kinda neat to see the crowds, everybody else panicking. I'm pretty calm at this point.

Erica Dane says she's starting and hoping to finish her shopping at Bay Park Square Mall.

"I put all my Christmas shopping off until today, so I'm going to get it all done -- one stop," said Dane.

Bay Park officials say they expect even larger crowds this Super Saturday than last year's.

"With the snow coming, we believe the stores will be quite busy today," said Blavat. "So everyone is getting out before the storm comes and of course the packers play tomorrow."

The mall is extending its hours until 10 p.m. each night until December 23 and until 6 p.m. on Christmas Eve.

Shopko, which has its own entrance at the mall, will stay open through midnight for the next few nights and until 7 p.m. on Christmas Eve.

"There was a short window between Thanksgiving and Christmas this year, and I think Christmas is really sneaking up on a lot of people," says Dale Adams, Shopko's store manager. "That's why we extended our hours and try to make it a little more convenient for people."
