Toys for Tots Receives Unique Donations

Every year around Christmas time, the WBAY lobby starts to look a lot like Santa's workshop, as donations pile in for our Toys for Tots drive, and some of our viewers like to give in unique ways.

"I enjoy sewing and I enjoy giving the kids something to be excited about," says Judy Capelle of Green Bay.

Capelle makes doll clothes by hand, and Thursday she dropped off six bags of them to our studios.

"I'm a Grandma, so I know how excited kids get when they get something new, and I used to sew for me niece when she had a Barbie doll when she was a little girl and she just used to love the little outfits I used to make for her because they were something different than what you could get in the store," explains Capelle.

She wants other kids to feel that same joy as her niece and she's not alone.

"Our kids they get what they want, but we know that there's kids out there that don't," says Julia Hansen of Green Bay.

The Hansen's live on Dousman Street. Their holiday tradition is to put up a lights display so spectacular, neighbors actually chip in to help pay for the WPS bills.

"People would start putting money in our mailbox and so we started collecting it," explains Hansen.

But instead of going to bills, that money goes to paying for gifts for Toys for Tots.

"We have 230 toys for this year the truck is all loaded up and ready to go so we'll be coming by tomorrow," says Hansen.

If you want to donate to toys for tots, there's still time!

We're holding a last call drive all day tomorrow, here at WBAY and in Appleton at the Valley Home Builders Association.

We'll have U.S. Marines on hand to accept your new, unwrapped toys curbside from 6AM-8PM.
