The Appleton Police Department says they have identified a person of interest in a fatal hit-and-run early Saturday morning on E. Wisconsin Avenue near Ballard Road.

They describe the man they want to talk to as:

  • Wearing a white t-shirt, brown baseball cap, dark pants and a belt with a large buckle
  • Has glasses
  • A beard
  • Tattoos on both arms

The truck they are looking for that they say the man drives is described as:

  • Red
  • Full size pickup truck
  • Dual wheels rear axle
  • Series of five lights on top of the cab
  • Running lights on the rear fender above rear wheels
  • A workbox in the bed

Police were able to track the suspect using traffic cam footage to a gas station in Little Chute.  That is where they were able to get surveillance footage of him buying gas.

Police say the victim of the accident Saturday has been identified as Robert F. Joosten, 61, of Little Chute.

Appleton Police say Joosten was riding his bicycle near the intersection of Wisconsin Avenue and Ballard Road.  They were called to the area after receiving a report of a man laying in the roadway.  Police say they are very confident that whoever hit Joosten would have known a collision had taken place.

Joosten was taken to a nearby hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Anyone with information on the truck or about the accident should call the Appleton Police Department at 832-5500.

The investigation is ongoing.
