Elderly couple survives head on collision with semi

Updated:

An elderly couple from Almond, Wisconsin has been taken to Waupaca Riverside Hospital with non life threatening injuries after their vehicle hit a semi head on  while driving on Hwy 22/54 just west of Hwy 110 Monday morning.

The Waupaca County Sheriff's Office says the elderly couple's car crossed the center line of Hwy 22/54.  A semi, driven by a 45 year-old man, noticed the car cross the centerline and tried to avoid the collision.  Both vehicles hit head on and came to a rest in the southern ditch of Hwy 22/54 with significant damage.

The elderly couple was transported to the hospital with non life threatening injuries and the driver of the semi was not hurt.

The Waupaca Communication Center says they received reports of the elderly couple's car crossing the centerline prior to the crash but are still investigating the entire accident.
