Father arrested for recklessly endangering child

A Oshkosh man is in custody after leading police on a pursuit with a child in the car.

Officers say a little before 7:30 p.m. they got a call that a 10-month-old child had been taken by its father from a Menasha home.

That man does not have legal custody of the child.

Police say about 20 minutes later, a state trooper located the man's vehicle.

When officers tried to pull the vehicle over, they say the man kept driving, reaching speeds of up to 90 miles per hour.

Police stopped the chase for the safety of the child, but the State Patrol kept the vehicle in sight.

A short time later that man reached a rail road crossing with it's gates down, and tried to drive in the ditch, but lost control of his vehicle and got stuck in the town of Van Dyne.

He refused to come out of the car for about 30 minutes, but eventually surrendered and turned the baby over to police.

The child wasn't hurt and was picked up by its mother.

Police are recommend charges of eluding an officer and reckless endangerment of a child.
