Letter Carriers Help "Stamp out Hunger"

Updated:

Letter carriers for the U.S. postal service are taking part in the national effort to stamp out hunger.

Carriers picked up food donations in our area as they dropped off your mail.

The "Stamp out Hunger" program is part of a national movement but all of the food that was gathered today will benefit food pantries in our area.

Organizer Tim Voelker said the need is especially high in Downtown Green Bay, where 9% of people say they have struggled with hunger in the last year.

"Every route is covered with volunteers, whether it's your wife, relative, brother, sister, uncle, aunt, and we go out, collect the food with the carrier, or ahead of the carrier, and we bring the food back for the pantry here at Cofrin station," said Voelker.

Last year, the food drive collected more than  250,000 pounds of food throughout Northeast Wisconsin.
