Woman Harassed for Leaving Online Complaints

It's something a lot of online shoppers do after buying something on the Internet, they leave comments about the transaction.

But a customer of an online discount eyewear company was harassed by the owner when she complained about a product she received.

The company, Décor My Eyes, promised luxury eyewear at a fraction of the cost, but often customers were getting counterfeits, knock-offs, or used glasses, according to postal inspectors.

"He became very upset with me when I said I would not pay the re-stocking fee and I would take it up with my credit card company," said Clarabelle Rodriguez.

Rodriguez eventually found a website where dissatisfied customers voiced their complaints.

The owner of Décor My Eyes, Vitally Borker, responded with vicious threats.

"When he saw that I had also placed a couple of complaints online, he contacted me and said he was watching me," Rodriguez said. "If I continued to write these negative comments about Décor My Eyes, I was going to show up on the news. He told me he lived one bridge over from me and he knew my address and he would come to my home and he would rape me."

Rodriguez called the police, the U.S. Attorney, and postal inspectors to report Borker's harassment.

"I'm an avid runner; I stopped running," Rodriguez said. "He managed to play mind games with me and I feared for my life, I feared I was in danger."

After a lengthy investigation, postal inspectors arrested Borker on several fraud charges.

"If anyone in this case would have done a Google search on Décor My Eyes, they would have found a myriad of complaints," said Douglas Veatch, U.S. Postal Inspector.

Borker was sentenced to four years in prison and ordered to pay more than $100,000.

Obviously, this is an extreme example, but the takeaway from the story is to do your research and check out the company before buying online.
