Dodge County Sheriff Todd Nehls announced he's retiring in one month after 26 years with the sheriff's department -- the last ten years as sheriff.
In a statement emailed Friday, Sheriff Nehls said, "I have been blessed to serve my
community and county for 34 years. I am
so very proud of the Sheriffs Dept. and the people we have, all are top-notch. It has been a tremendous journey
as we transitioned a dated department into a state-of-the-art, professional
force."
He cited reduced violent and property crimes, increased crime solving, and a 50-percent reduction in traffic fatalities during his tenure.
