I practically limped into Anytime Fitness in March of 2008. As a former "runner" with a nagging ankle injury and knee pain, I had just re-injured and was certain I'd never run again. I was a couch potato all winter and I watched the number on the scale rise until I simply stopped weighing myself. I didn't even want to know.
Spring was on the horizon, and I was finally ready to quit with the self-inflicted guilt and do something about my ever-increasing weight. So I got a membership and hopped onto the cardio equipment.
I was also excited about the personal training sessions that were offered with my new membership. I figured that the membership fee was all about "cost per workout." If I joined and didn't visit the club, this was going to cost me a fortune. But if I joined and actually came to the club five times a week, it would be about $2 a visit.
And face it, I'm a thrifty gal. I planned to show up and get my money's worth.
In the midst of my two personal training sessions with Derick, I become keenly aware of how weak and out of shape I really was. My body was laden with muscles that hadn't been flexed in, uh, well, ever? The brutally honest club mirrors reflected a body that I couldn't even believe belonged to me. Eighteen years ago I'd earned the title of Miss Wisconsin. What happened?
My trainer was a real motivator. I've booked an appointment with him about once a month ever since I joined, and the timing was ideal for me. If I didn't do the work assigned during that month, it would be clear to my trainer. God forbid I disappoint the guy I was paying to give me these challenging assignments. By the time the month was over, I'd be ready for a new routine, which I followed to the letter.
Pretty soon, those same mirrors in the club started to show me a different body. The changes came in very slow, miniscule increments. A waistline began to return, the formerly tight jeans became a bit baggy, and even my complexion improved. More importantly, I felt great and my friends and family began to notice.
Honestly, I've only lost about five pounds. But I've gained a few things, however: physical strength, confidence, relief from stress, and the friendship of my fellow Anytime Fitness members and staff always ready to offer a simple "hey" and a bit of encouragement along the way.
I think my number one excuse had been that I didn't have the time to work out. (Is that yours?)
I co-own a company with about 35 employees, host an online scrapbooking show, serve as a board member, volunteer at church, have a husband and pre-teen daughter, and I even have a life. Of course I don't have time to work out!
But I choose to make the time. Anytime Fitness and my trainer have helped me get on track...and I finally have the physical stamina and energy to survive this thing we call life.
See you at Anytime!
