Papermakers extend win streak + more area highlights

Kimberly 38, Appleton North 31

The Kimberly Papermakers held off a late Appleton North surge in the second half to win 38-31 and extend its win streak to 63 straight.

Kimberly jumped out to a 24-10 lead at halftime but the Appleton North Lightning would come back.

North scored on a 1-yard touchdown run by Ian Laatsch to make it at 24-17 game but Kimberly responded with a 20 yard run by running back John Nett to lead 31-17 after three quarters.

Then the game got wild. Two plays into the fourth quarter, North quarterback Carter Robinson hit Jack Van Ekeren for the nine-yard touchdown pass and catch.

The Lightning forced a 3-and-out by Kimberly to get the ball back with more than nine minutes to play. North then went on a nine-play drive ending with an Ian Laatsch, 1-yard touchdown to tie the game at 31.

Back-to-back 3-and-outs for both teams gave Kimberly the ball back with less than two minutes left.

With 39 seconds left, Kimberly quarterback Alec Rosner found Zach Lechnir for a 41-yard touchdown to take a 38-31 lead and ultimately the win. Kimberly improves to 7-0.

Bay Port 21, Green Bay Southwest 14

The Bay Port Pirates scored twice in the first quarter to take a 14-0 lead on the Green Bay Southwest Trojans.

Southwest marched all the way to the goal line just before the end of the first half. Trojans quarterback Nick Howard scored from a yard out to make it 14-7 at halftime.

Bay Port quarterback Issac Krause scored his second rushing touchdown of the game in the third quarter to take a 21-7 lead.

The Pirates blocked a Southwest punt but the Trojans recovered it and would use the momentum of the fumble recovery to score on a 1-yard rushing touchdown by running back Joshua Koomis take get within seven points in the fourth quarter.

But Bay Port forced Southwest to turn it over on down and then ran out the clock to get the 21-14 win and remain undefeated at 7-0.
