MENASHA, Wis. (WBAY) - The Bay Conference matchup between Xavier and Menasha on paper looked to be even but it wasn't on the field. The Menasha Bluejays easily defeated Xavier Friday night at Rocky Bleir Field, 50-8.
The Xavier Hawks started on an opening drive 28 yard touchdown pass from senior quarterback Hunter Plaaman to junior receiver Aidan Maguire but after that it was all Menasha. Hawks turned the ball over four times including three times in the first half. Bluejays senior quarterback Alex Zeinert threw a 31 yard touchdown to senior Riley Zirpel before scoring two more times to lead 28-8 at halftime.
"They came right down the field and they scared us scoring on right away and they made it look easy and out defense bounced back a little adversity right away and the offense came down and big clutch play long pass and I think that was a big momentum changer we got back in the game and then from then on our defense a took care of business," Menasha Head Coach Jeramie Korth said.
Menasha (3-0, 2-0 BAY) will host Shawano (2-1, 2-1 BAY) on Friday, Sept. 8 at Calder Stadium. Right now West De Pere leads with Bay conference with 3 wins and no losses while Seymour (2-1, 2-0 BAY) and Menasha are a half game back. Xavier (2-1, 2-1 BAY) will head to Seymour next Friday.
