NEW YORK CITY, NY. (WBAY) - Milwaukee Bucks guard Malcolm Brogdon took home the NBA Rookie of the Year Award Monday night in New York City.
Brogdon was the 2nd round pick (36th overall) in the 2016 NBA Draft averaging 10.2 points per game while leading all rookies in assists (4.2 apg) and steals (1.12 spg). Brogdon beat out 76ers small forward Dario Saric and forward Joel Embiid.
Brogdon is the first Bucks player to win the award since Kareem Abdul-Jabbar won it in 1970. He's the latest draft pick since Philadelphia Warriors forward/center Woody Sauldsberry, an 8th round draft pick won it in 1958.
Earlier Monday the NBA announced Brodgon was chosen to the NBA All-Rookie first team.
