GREEN BAY, Wis. (WBAY) The Packers look to create a dynamic two tight end package to Green Bay with the free agent additions of Martellus Bennett and Lance Kendricks, but Bennett knows that to have success on the field, you have to build strong relationships off of it.
There's no textbook answer on how to get acquainted with Aaron Rodgers. Sometimes you've just got to go with what feels right.
“Aaron is a nice guy. It's text messages. I send a lot of emojis. It's just like making conversations just talking to one another, and that's pretty much it. I just tell him things like ‘I like chocolate chip cookies, like what kind of things do you like?’ so I just tell him little things,” said Martellus Bennett.
It’s the little things that even this early in offseason have been very telling for twelve.
“He brings a different type of attitude. He is a very interesting person, you know, he's got a lot of great interests. He cares about football. He cares about dominating he brings that grit and that attitude where he wants to dominate the guy over him,” said Aaron Rodgers.
As much fun as it's been getting to know each other off the field, it's still too early to see if that will translate into on-field chemistry, but Bennett has had success with his approach to building relationships on other teams.
“Once you get to know a guy it's bigger than just plays you're playing for one another. You really can't play for one another unless you know each other,” said Bennett.
They're also playing for championships. Something Bennett knows better than anyone, coming off a Super Bowl-winning season with the Patriots.
The addition of him and Lance Kendricks gives Green Bay more options on offense.
“I think when you put two tight ends on the field it really is a tendency breaker. It’s a pretty balanced run pass game which we need,” said Rodgers.
